Carlton stared at the reflection in his apartment window, hardly recognizing the person staring back. A blonde woman stared back at her, dressed in an elegant blue cocktail dress that fell neatly around her knees. Her feet were trapped in matching high heels, and every time she moved, she had to compensate for a balance that was completely unfamiliar.
But Carlton knew exactly who was responsible.
Paul.
She stormed into his apartment, fury overcoming her bewilderment. Paul barely had time to turn around.
"Carlton—" he began.
"You did this to me!"
Carlton swung a fist at Paul's head. Unfortunately, her new center of gravity had other ideas. Her heel slipped slightly, throwing off her aim, and the punch sailed harmlessly past Paul's head. Carlton staggered and caught herself against the wall.
The anger vanished almost instantly.
She looked down at her unfamiliar hands, then at the blue dress, and suddenly tears began streaming down her cheeks. "I don't understand," she sobbed. "Why would you do this to me?"
Paul's expression softened. he led Carlton to his bedroom.
By morning, something had changed.
Carlton woke and sat up. Sunlight streamed through the curtains. She looked down at herself, then walked over to the mirror. For the first time, instead of seeing the transformation as something frightening, she noticed how natural the reflection seemed.
She smiled.
The blue dress suited her. The blonde hair suited her. Even the heels, though still awkward, no longer seemed quite so impossible.
When Paul entered the room, she turned toward him with a grin.
